Built circa 1896-97 by Francis M. Butt of John D. Butt and Son, insurance agents. This Queen Anne style home features an irregular floor plan, a brick first floor with shingled walls on the second floor all features typical of the style. Note the second story porch and the overhanging attic story braced with shingle covered brackets. The raised stone coping wall that retains an elevated yard is a reminder of days when flooding from the Savannah River was a common occurrence, and downtown residents attempted to protect their property by elevating the ground level of their yards.
