Dr. Joy Mallard Book Signing

Historic Augusta Hosts Exclusive Book Signing with Author Joy Hughes Mallard
AUGUSTA, GA — Historic Augusta, Inc. invites the public to a special book signing event on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at the Boyhood Home of Joseph Rucker Lamar, located at 415 Seventh Street, Augusta, GA.
Join us for an exclusive opportunity to meet native Augustan and author Joy Hughes Mallard as she signs copies of her newly published book, Justice Joseph Rucker Lamar’s Augusta, Georgia. This unique volume features rare, never-before-published personal photographs of Augusta scenes and landmarks taken by Justice Lamar himself at the turn of the twentieth century.
Joseph Rucker Lamar, who spent most of his life in Augusta, grew up at 415 Seventh Street and later raised his family at 1209 Greene Street while building a distinguished legal career. His achievements culminated in appointments to both the Georgia Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. Around the turn of the 20th century, Lamar acquired a personal portable camera and began documenting the architecture and streetscapes of Augusta—including his own homes on Greene Street and Johns Road.
Dr. Mallard’s book provides not only these historically valuable photographs, but also context about Lamar’s life and the city he called home. Supplemented with additional images and rich narrative, the work captures Augusta’s evolving landscape through the eyes of one of its most prominent citizens.
Guests will have the opportunity to purchase signed copies for $39.95 plus tax, meet the author, and enjoy an afternoon immersed in local history and literature—all inside the historic home where Lamar spent his youth. All tours of the adjacent Boyhood Home of President Woodrow Wilson will be Buy One, Get One Free. Tours start on the hour from 10 AM-4 PM; but the museum is closed from noon to 1 PM for lunch.
